? We are currently hiring year round. Check with our Recruit Team for exact dates - melzey@memphispolice.org

? The college/military requirements are: applicant must have at least 81 quarter hours or 54 semester hours with a grade of "C" or better in each class from an accredited college (Remedial courses are not included in meeting the minimum educational requirement.) - OR - two (2) consecutive years ACTIVE DUTY in a branch of the military and possess an HONORABLE DISCHARGE.


? The employment process is approximately five to six months in length. The process includes the following components:

1.  Written Test
2.  Physical Ability Test (PAT)
3. Background Investigation
4.  Psychological Testing
5.  Medical Testing.


? The Memphis Police Training Academy is 20 weeks of instruction. We conduct classes Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Dormitory facilities are not provided.


? We currently have a 25 year retirement.


? There are several medical and dental insurance plans to choose from once employed. 


? We now accept lateral transfers or experience from other agencies as a qualifier for employment if you pass the following quiz:

If you can answer "YES" to ALL of the following criteria, 
you may apply as a lateral transfer:

? Are you a graduate of a TN municipal or regional Basic Law Enforcement Academy, as accepted by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)?  (Copy of Academy Certificate and TN POST certificate or POST number must be submitted with application)

? Do you have five (5) continuous years of full-time post academy service as a paid, sworn, municipal, county or state police officer within the last 36 months in the State of Tennessee?

? Have you worked in a police agency with ten (10) or more paid, full-time officers?

? Do you meet all regular, minimum entry-level requirements (i.e. 54 college semester hours or two years continuous military)?

? Do you want to apply for the lateral entry program?
