JAMES M. RYALL

James M. Ryall began his career with the Memphis Police Department on June 4, 1983, as a Police Recruit at the Training Academy. Upon completion of basic training on October 10, 1983, Officer Ryall was assigned to Uniform Patrol at the West Precinct. As a Police Officer, his assignments included the West Precinct Alpha shift, South Precinct Alpha Shift, Executive Administration Bravo Shift and Crime Prevention.

Deputy Director James Ryall has over 32 years of service with the Memphis Police Department.

  • 1996

    Promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant his assignments included the Crime Prevention, Vehicle Theft, Robbery, Homicide and Safe Streets Task Force.

  • 2002

    Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant his assignments included the Safe Street Task Force, Downtown Precinct Charlie shift, Northeast Precinct Alpha and Charlie Shifts and North Precinct Alpha Shift.

  • 2008

    Promoted to the rank of Major. As a Major his assignments included Domestic Violence, Homicide, Old Allen Station Alpha shift and Inspectional Services.

  • 2011

    Appointed to the rank of Colonel and assigned to Investigative Services and Ridgeway Station Administration.

  • 2014

    Appointed to the rank of Deputy Chief and assigned to Executive Administration Investigative Services.

  • 2016

    Appointed to the rank of Deputy Director.
