On Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:12 p.m., officers responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash at South Third Street and Builders Way. Officers were advised that an unknown driver in an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on S. Third Street toward Builders Way when it struck the rear bumper of a black 2014 Nissan Altima. After being struck, the Nissan Altima spun out of control and hit a light pole. After striking the Nissan Altima, the unknown vehicle traveled northbound on South Third Street toward East Fairway Avenue. The driver and the passenger of the Nissan Altima were both transported to Regional One Health in critical condition. The passenger later succumbed to his injuries. The unknown vehicle is likely to have front-end damage.
