Andrew Brown began his career with the Memphis Police Department on September 29, 1997, as a Police Service Technician.

On September 19, 1998, he entered the Training Academy as a Police Recruit. Upon completion of basic training on December 10, 1998, Officer Brown was assigned to the Central Precinct Alpha shift.

As a Patrol Officer, Officer Brown was also assigned to the Downtown Precinct Charlie shift, Central Precinct Delta shift, West Precinct Bravo shift, Burglary, Union Station Bravo shift, and Appling Farms Station Bravo shift.

On November 15, 2010, Officer Brown was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant, he was assigned to Burglary Bureau, Domestic Violence, and Quality Assurance.

On July 16, 2016, Sergeant Brown was promoted to Lieutenant. As Lieutenant he was assigned Appling Farms Station Bravo shift, Tillman Station Alpha shift and Information Systems.

On January 29, 2021, Lieutenant Brown was promoted to the rank of Major. As a Major, he was assigned to Mt. Moriah Station Alpha shift, Information Systems, Ridgeway Station Charlie shift, and Ridgeway Station Admin.

On March 2, 2024, Major Brown was appointed to the rank of Colonel. As a Colonel, he is assigned to Airways Station Admin.

On October 18, 2025, Colonel Brown was appointed Deputy Chief of Information Technology.
