Information Technology (IT)

The mission of MPD’s Information Technology (IT) Division is to optimize the Department’s ability to protect and serve the citizens of Memphis through the efficient and innovative use of the most advanced Information Technology (IT) available. Challenges include identifying which technologies should be incorporated to achieve the greatest public safety benefit. Responsibilities include planning, developing, implementing, and supporting the IT systems and networks throughout the Police Division.

The Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) hosts several applications that leverage current technologies to combat crime, enhance the security of city assets and infrastructure, and protect the citizens of the Memphis area. Responsibility for the security of all physical assets has been placed under the Memphis Police Department (MPD) and standardized for monitoring through the RTCC. The center utilizes advanced software capable of providing instant information on recent criminal activity within a given radius, identifying existing crime patterns in neighborhoods, and tracking individuals with prior arrest records who may frequent those areas.

The Memphis Police Department’s Office of Homeland Security is committed to investigating incidents that have connections to both domestic and international terrorism. The office plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the community by analyzing, evaluating, and disseminating critical intelligence related to potential threats. This vital information is shared with local, state, and federal partners, including the FBI, ATF, TBI, EMA, TN Fusion Center, and the Department of Homeland Security, ensuring a unified approach to maintaining public safety and security.

The Memphis Police Department’s Information Systems (IS) division supports law enforcement by providing seamless access to critical technology and data. By integrating databases, software, and communication systems, IS ensures officers and officials have timely, accurate information. In partnership with the Real-Time Crime Center, IS enables quick access to real-time crime data, surveillance, and predictive analytics, improving decision-making and public safety. Additionally, IS facilitates the secure sharing of vital intelligence, aiding in the protection against local and global threats while strengthening the Memphis Police with the ability to safeguard the city.
