With nine police stations located throughout the city, Uniform Patrol is the strength of the MPD, and all other divisions support its activities. Responsible for patrolling all areas of the city, responding to routine and emergency calls, conducting preliminary crime investigations and enforcing both criminal and traffic laws, Uniform Patrol is the community’s primary point of contact for services.

Every police station has a General Investigation Bureau (GIB). Your local GIB is set up to investigate: Accidental Injury, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Animal Injury, Bribery, Burglary, Escapee, Intimidation, Motor Vehicle Theft, Pocket Picking, Robbery, Shoplifting, Suspicious Person, Theft, Threatening Phone Call, Obscene/Harassing Phone Call, Vandalism, Stolen Property, False Reporting, and Fire Alarms.

Each GIB is responsible for the investigation of 25 different criminal offenses committed within the jurisdiction of the City of Memphis.

Hours of operations are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. — open seven days a week.

According to Tennesee Code 39-16-502, it is unlawful for any person to initiate a report or statement to a law enforcement officer concerning an offense or incident within the officer’s concern knowing that the offense or incident did not occur.
