On January 13, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a shots-fired call at 300 N. Highland Street.
While officers were on the way, an RTCC lieutenant monitoring city camera systems observed two individuals dressed in all black standing on the east side of the street. The suspects were seen on camera firing multiple rounds across the roadway toward the apartment complex before fleeing the area.
Upon arrival, officers quickly confirmed multiple units within the apartment complex had been struck by gunfire. Officers canvassed the complex door-to-door, checking each impacted unit and making contact with residents to ensure no one had been injured. Several apartments showed visible bullet damage.
At one unit, officers observed multiple gunshot holes through a side window. After knocking several times and announcing “Police,” there was no response. Officers then noticed the back door was open and entered to conduct a safety check.
Inside, they encountered a male later identified as 29-year-old Dontario Woody, who emerged from a back room with his hands raised. Woody stated he had been asleep and did not answer the door. While clearing the apartment, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and observed a firearm on the floor.
Woody was detained pending further investigation.
Detectives with the Organized Crime Unit obtained and executed a search warrant for the apartment. During the search, investigators recovered eight firearms and more than 85 pounds of marijuana.
Dontario Woody was charged with:
• Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm (3 counts)
• Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver/Sell (Marijuana)
• Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony
Through quick response, RTCC technology, and coordinated investigative efforts, officers transformed a shots-fired call into a significant seizure taking eight firearms and over 85 pounds of marijuana out of the community before they could fuel further crime.
