The Memphis Police Department is ready to help you celebrate the New Year safely in Downtown Memphis! To help keep everyone safe, MPD will have a strong presence throughout Downtown Memphis. Officers will be on foot, in patrol vehicles, on bicycles, and on horseback, providing high-visibility coverage across the area. The Downtown Command Center will be fully activated, supported by drone technology and K9 detection teams to enhance situational awareness and public safety.
Safety Tips:
- Lock your vehicle every time you step away, even for a moment.
- Take valuables with you—don’t leave them visible or stored in your car.
- Park in designated, well-lit areas whenever possible and try not to travel alone.
- See something that doesn’t feel right? Trust your instincts and report suspicious activity.
- Guns and alcohol don’t mix—and firearms don’t belong at crowded celebrations. If you own a gun, the safest choice is to leave it at home, not in your vehicle.
- Never drive impaired. If you plan to drink, use a designated driver or rideshare.
- Enjoy fireworks safely—join us downtown for a professional show. Personal fireworks are not allowed, and violations will be enforced.
- And remember: what goes up must come down. Gunfire can seriously injure or kill someone.
