Following a two-week investigation, the Memphis Police Department’s Ridgeway Station, in partnership with the MPD Auto Theft Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service, shut down an illegal chop shop operation and arrested two individuals connected to vehicle theft activity.
On December 30, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., investigators executed search warrants in the 3700 block of Canary Cove West and the 4200 block of Tonawanda Street. During the searches, officers recovered a stolen 2011 Dodge Challenger, two engines, and multiple vehicle parts stripped from stolen vehicles.
Chop shops are a major driver of auto theft, allowing stolen vehicles to be dismantled and sold for parts, which fuels continued theft across the city. By dismantling this operation, investigators disrupted a supply chain that supports auto theft and helped reduce future theft activity citywide.
ARRESTED:
-
Anthony Burns (20): Burglary, Theft of Property $10,000–$60,000 (three counts), and Chop Shop Law
-
Kyla Burns (18): Theft of Property $10,000–$60,000 (two counts) and Chop Shop Law
