On Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:10 p.m., officers responded to a fatal pedestrian crash at 3215 South Third Street. Officers arrived and located a male pedestrian who had been struck. The male was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased. Officers determined that a blue SUV, possibly a 200-2006 BMW X5 with a Mississippi license plate, was traveling southbound on South Third Street when it swerved into the continuous turn lane, striking the pedestrian. The vehicle fled southbound on South Third Street to eastbound Mitchell Road.

The vehicle was later confirmed to be a 2005 BMW X5 and was located in the 600 block of Breedlove.

The driver has not been identified at this time.
