During the course of the investigation, Aaron Collins, 49, was identified as a suspect in connection with the homicide. On August 25, 2026, officers apprehended Collins in the area of Beale Street and Fourth Street. Collins was charged with Second-Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence.

On August 24, 2026, at 11:01 p.m., officers responded to a wounding call in the 200 block of N. Main St. Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim who had been stabbed. The male was pronounced deceased on the scene. Preliminary information suggests that the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal altercation that became violent. The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts, and is described as a Black male, slim build with short dreaded hair.
