On March 24, 2026, at approximately 11:59 a.m., MPD officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1400 block of Briercrest Lane. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Responding officers quickly identified and apprehended the suspect, with assistance from a National Guard unit working in the area at the time of the incident.

The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect, Elijah Sanders, were involved in a physical altercation before the shooting.

Elijah Sanders, 20, has been charged with Second Degree Murder and Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.
