Two Homicide Suspects Arrested Thursday as MPD Maintains 82% Clearance Rate

The Memphis Police Department continues to achieve strong results in violent crime investigations, maintaining an 82% homicide clearance rate as investigators work to identify and apprehend those responsible for violent offenses in our city.
In two separate homicide investigations this week, MPD Homicide investigators quickly identified suspects in both investigations, and the MPD Fugitive Unit took both individuals into custody on Thursday without incident.
“Maintaining an 82% homicide clearance rate reflects the dedication and urgency of the investigators in our Homicide Unit who work tirelessly to solve violent crimes,” said Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis. “We will continue using every available resource to identify and hold violent criminals accountable, bring justice to victims and their families, and sustain the gains we’ve made in reducing violent crime.”
Blue Willow Cove Homicide Investigation
On May 25, 2026, at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 6100 block of Blue Willow Cove. Officers located an adult male victim who was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Homicide investigators responded, conducted interviews, and collected evidence. Through the course of the investigation, investigators identified 18-year-old Tracy Vaughn as the suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with First-Degree Murder.
On May 28, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the MPD Fugitive Unit located Vaughn in the 4600 block of Spring Valley Drive and took him into custody without incident.
Claymore Drive Homicide Investigation
On May 23, 2026, at approximately 6:36 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 3600 block of Claymore Drive. Officers located an adult female victim who was transported to Regional One Health in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
During the investigation, homicide investigators learned the victim had been involved in an argument with her ex-boyfriend prior to the shooting. Investigators identified 24-year-old Terence Jones as the suspect and obtained warrants charging him with First-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.
On May 28, 2026, the MPD Fugitive Unit took Jones into custody in the 900 block of Union Avenue without incident.
