On December 31, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of River Valley Lane. When officers arrived, the victim, Deonte Fletcher (pictured below), had already been transported to St. Francis Hospital by private vehicle, suffering from several gunshot injuries. Officers canvassed the scene and located a Palmetto PA-15 AR-style firearm lying on the ground with several 9mm spent shell casings near the gun. Deonte Fletcher was airlifted to Regional One Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Officers were advised that a late-model black Ford 4-door pick-up truck was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting.
