One year ago today, the Memphis Police Department opened the Downtown Command Center (DCC), a key investment in strengthening public safety and enhancing real-time response across downtown Memphis.
Since the opening of the Downtown Command Center, overall crime in downtown Memphis has decreased by more than 55%.
Since its launch, the DCC has become a critical tool in crime reduction and investigative support. Monitoring more than 300 cameras in real time, the center provides officers with immediate access to live intelligence. When suspicious or criminal activity is identified, officers are quickly alerted and equipped with real-time updates and detailed suspect information as they respond.
In its first year, the Downtown Command Center has:
- Assisted in 143 arrests
- Provided 589 investigative assists, supporting both criminal and traffic-related cases
The DCC has also played a vital role in supporting major events, including New Year’s Eve celebrations, 901 Day, Memphis Grizzlies games, Memphis in May, and other large gatherings, helping ensure a safe environment for both residents and visitors.
“Technology is one of the most powerful tools we have in modern policing,” said Deputy Chief Brown, Chief of Information Technology. “The Downtown Command Center allows us to deliver real-time intelligence directly to officers on the ground, improving response times, strengthening investigations, and helping make downtown Memphis safer for everyone.”
As the Downtown Command Center enters its second year, it will continue to support officers in the field and strengthen public safety efforts across downtown.
