The Memphis Police Department has announced the closure of Home 1 Extended Stay at 4300 American Way, following an extensive investigation into ongoing criminal activity at the property.
Beginning in August of 2024, detectives with MPD’s Organized Crime Unit initiated an investigation after receiving complaints involving drug activity, violent crime, and other illegal activity connected to the location.
The investigation determined that between August 2022 and August 2024, MPD:
• Responded to 793 calls for service at the location
• Completed 174 offense reports associated with the premises
• Apprehended over 44 individuals, including arrests for aggravated assault, narcotics, felonies, weapons violations, and murder
• Documented 39 overdoses occurring at the property
Reported criminal activity that included:
• Robberies
• Carjackings
• Theft from motor vehicles
• Motor vehicle thefts
• Homicides
• Aggravated assaults
• Drug violations
• Gambling
• Prostitution
• Weapons violations
On October 23, 2024, MPD executed three search warrants during a nuisance closure operation, which resulted in 13 arrests and a large-scale seizure of controlled substances, including:
• Over 200 grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine
• 68 grams of cocaine
• 894 oxycodone pills
• 106 ecstasy pills
• 39 Xanax pills
• 571 grams of marijuana
The property later reopened on February 10, 2025, after the injunction was dissolved.
Since reopening, MPD has documented over 400 calls for service. The continued criminal activity includes:
• 17 of which were overdose calls
• 2 individuals shot
• 10 ambulance calls
• 3 armed robberies
• 1 carjacking
• 2 inappropriate touching incidents
• 24 armed party calls
• 59 offense reports (July 1, 2025 – Feb. 18, 2026)
• 5 narcotics search warrants served since October 29, 2025
