Suspect Arrested for Attempted Statutory Rape

On June 23, 2026, officers responded to a complaint in the 4000 block of St. Pierre after the mother of a 13-year-old girl discovered concerning messages between her daughter and a 20-year-old male.

During the exchange, the suspect was made aware of the victim’s age but continued communicating with her and arranged to meet in person.

After learning of the planned meeting, the victim’s mother contacted the Memphis Police Department. Officers responded to the location and located the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Tyrone Clayton, in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Clayton was taken into custody and charged with Attempted Statutory Rape. His bond was set at $10,000.

After discovering the messages, the victim’s mother contacted MPD, helping prevent a potentially dangerous situation and leading to the suspect’s arrest. MPD encourages parents and guardians to remain involved in their children’s communications and to report suspicious or concerning activity to law enforcement.
