Two Homicide Arrests Made Within 24 Hours; Homicide Clearance Rate at 89%

The Memphis Police Department made two arrests in separate homicide investigations within 24 hours, reflecting the continued work of MPD officers, investigators, and the Homicide Bureau to identify and apprehend those responsible for violent crimes.

Homicide Arrest – 1100 Block of Cannon Street

On September 21, 2026, at approximately 9:56 a.m., officers responded to a man-down call in the 1100 block of Cannon Street. Officers located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, homicide investigators determined that Christopher Banks was responsible for the shooting. On October 3, 2026, officers located Banks and took him into custody.

Christopher Banks, 35, was arrested and charged with 1st-Degree Murder in Perpetration of a Robbery.

Homicide Arrest – 4600 Block of Yosemite Court

On October 4, 2026, at approximately 1:36 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 4600 block of Yosemite Court. Officers arrived and located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, homicide investigators determined that Daruis Calvin was responsible for the shooting.

Calvin sustained injuries during the incident and was later located at a hospital in Crittenden County, Arkansas just hours after the shooting.

Daruis Calvin, 26, was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder, Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun. He is awaiting extradition to Shelby County.

MPD’s homicide clearance rate currently stands at 89%.
